Beginning on Wednesday, May 23rd, 2018, the City of Claremont will be doing a routine smoke testing of sewer lines to locate possible breaks in the sewer line.

The City of Claremont will be hosting its annual Memorial Day Service in the City Park located at 3384 East Main Street, Claremont, NC 28610. The service will take place in front of the Veteran’s Memorial Wall at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome to attend and some seating will be provided. In case of bad weather, the service will be relocated to Claremont Fire Department.

The Recreation Committee will NOT meet on Tuesday, May 1 and will meet instead on Tuesday, May 8 at 12PM at City Hall. After the May meeting all other meeting date times will also be changed to 12PM instead of 6PM for the rest of 2018.

The City will host their annual Touch-A-Truck and Community Day on April 21 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Fire Department located at 2850 Fire House Lane in Claremont. The whole family will enjoy getting up close and personal with huge trucks, emergency vehicles, construction equipment and more in a friendly and safe environment!

The City will host a beard competition this year in honor of its 125th Anniversary, also known as the Quasquicentennial Year. Competition sign-ups are open until the end of April and competition ends the week of November 26th with judging done on November 30th. The competition is open to anyone that lives or works in Catawba County.

During the month of April, the Claremont Fire Department will be testing and flushing fire hydrants throughout the city. This process can cause sedimentation in the water lines. If you see sediment or discoloration, please allow the water to run for a few minutes to clear. As a reminder, there needs to be a 3-foot clearance to provide access to the hydrant for maintenance and use. If you have any questions you can call the Fire Department or City Hall.

The Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday, March 31st, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. We invite children ages 10 and under and their families to join us for an egg-hunting extravaganza!

Prysmian Group has announced a new investment in Claremont, NC. Prysmian Group, the world leader in the energy and telecom cable and systems industry, announced an expansion to the company’s facility in Claremont, N.C. The $54 million investment will increase the plant’s capacity by 60 percent and support the production of optical fiber for the telecom industry. With this investment, Prysmian Group has approved a capital expenditure of more than $79 million for its Claremont facility since 2014.

Prysmian Group, located in Claremont’s International Business Park, recently announced a $20 Million expansion and the creation of 50 new jobs over the next three years.
