Downtown Claremont offers free wireless internet access. The initial network covers an area encompassing Main Street from Church Street to the Post Office and south to the rail road tracks. This service is made possible through the City’s partnership with Catawba County for internet service. Any resident, or visitor is free to use this service, although users will have to accept the City's terms of use, which prohibit inappropriate websites. The City has taken advantage of a very cost effective new product line and has been able to provide this service with very little investment. | CODERED |
Catawba County provides an alert system to allow the public to be contacted by phone, text, and e-mail in case of a large-scale emergency. The system may also be used to let you know of important and urgent situations such as utility service interruptions, public water contamination, bridge collapse, etc. The message would include information about where to go and what to do. Catawba County has contracted with Emergency Communications Network, Inc. to use the CodeRED® system. To understand the Community Alert System, its purpose and how it works, you should read the Frequently Asked Questions before you register.
